CAMPUS BROADCASTING WITH THE PINS RADIO SYSTEM ALERTS EVERYONE TO CONDITIONS AND SITUATIONS ENCOUNTERED BY EDUCATIONAL FACILITIES BROADCAST CAMPUS INFORMATION TO A LARGE SURROUNDING AREA OF YOUR COMMUNITY WITH THE NEW: Parents, Pupils and
Personnel Immediate Notification System Radio Network What it is: PINS is an FCC approved radio-broadcasting system that is designed and authorized exclusively for educational institutions (preschool to college) to disseminate information to a specific audience. This includes your pupils, their parents and your staff personnel as well. How it works: In every city there are unused broadcast radio channels. Under the FCC rules only educational institutions are permitted to operate their own radio station to send information to the students and related audience on these unused channels. Your audience needs only to tune into your channel on their radio in the car, home or portable to hear the information that you are broadcasting. What you can do with it: Practically anything except commercial broadcasting. This includes: ESL transmissions and instruction, homework assignment information, school opening/ closure notification, classroom availability, school news, broadcasting the commencement or PTA meetings and so on. Other uses are parental notifications that students are to be picked up at another location and field interviews using remote microphones. You can announce parking lot availability, field trip time and dates, students honored for outstanding achievements and it can even be a component of a broadcast journalism course of study as well. The uses are limited only by your imagination. How the information is stored and sent: During the typical school day the transmissions are typically live from the school studio. This means that an announcer is actually speaking into the radio microphone that sends the voice over-the-air in real time, playing 'canned' or pre-recorded messages. In off hours, messages may be stored as ‘canned’ announcements and broadcast repetitively with a digital recorder. Format and content of transmissions: The FCC permits these stations to use two formats; pre-recorded, cycling messages stored in digital recorders, CD or other 'canned' media AND 'CNN Headline Reporter' type of newscaster format. This is NOT a 'DJ' spinning records and banter, this is a formal news and information broadcasting station that you can use to inform and educate your Parents, Pupils and Personnel within the facility and in the surrounding community. Power and range of the station: The FCC permits you a very high power output of 10 watts, which when properly applied to an antenna will cover the campus and the school neighborhood. This covers the immediate area that you draw your student population from. The design of the antenna and radiating system is critical and we do the engineering to make it work properly as part of the deal. How the administration benefits: PINS stations may even be remotely accessed so that the central administration facility can change the program content or transmit an immediate emergency message. The station can then become a component of an emergency notification system that keeps parents, pupils and personnel alert to the changing conditions on campus. Additionally, the central administration or district may elect to feed the proceedings of a Site Based Management conference to all PINS radio stations simultaneously to include everyone in the ‘town meeting’ on the airwaves. Funding and grants: We work closely with Districts and Central Administrators to obtain the funding and, in some cases, grant money to provide these systems. We offer the expertise to you to provide the requisite documentation to the District to obtain funding so you may better serve your community. Discretionary funds, such as lottery revenue, qualify for these systems as well under State guidelines and we offer low interest rate leases as time payment plans too. There is always a way. Who we are: Providing communications solutions since 1971, we are an engineering and consulting firm that specializes in qualifying, installing, certifying and maintaining the PINS network radio system. One call does it all. We do the FCC field study and design, then we submit a proposal to you and work with your facility to get funding to make it operational. Once approved, we install the system and work with your personnel to get the programming information ‘on-the-air’. We provide content manuals and training in that we instruct the persons responsible for the information content as to what is appropriate and legal and assist with storing and playing messages. We offer full maintenance service on the station as well. We are FCC licensed and have the requisite equipment to certify the station and keep you broadcasting. Who to forward this information to: District or Central Administrators, school Principals, Deans and Site Based Management Team Leaders. Call for more or make copies as needed. Where to call to get going: Call our office for an appointment to have an engineer survey your campus or district for installation of a PINS station or network. |
